SUZ SOX

Great K&N yesterday girls..thanks really enjoying my Saturday afternoons
Sparkly was knitting socks again....got to give them ago l say hehehe
thanks for the inspiration Sparkly
SUZ SOCKS begin....
DID MY RESEARCH
worked out roughly what l was supposed to be doing found this site that gave me the gist of sock making
FOUND SOME YARN AND A HOOK AND OFF I WENT...
FIRST EFFORT hehehe.......not a good shape and BIG enough to fit Phil and yes he will get some
 BUT.....
for now l wanted the 1st pair to fit me
didn't have any proper sock yarn so found a random yarn not sure what it's made of and it's definitely DK not 4ply....sock yarn on the 'to buy' list now!

SO WENT BACK TO THE BEGINNING AGAIN

1st thing to decide l thought was how many stitches l needed using the yarn l had and the hook l had decided on to fit my foot found it was....30 not the 40 l had done with the first effort
I'm using a 4mm hook and the random DK l had
on paper l worked out that working backwards l need to start with 9st chain plus one for the 1st sc
then sc down one side turn the corner with 2 extra sts(that's 3 sts in the end chain)
work back the other side of the chain and do 3sts in the last chain
good so far...22 stitches
increase on the second round with 3sts in one st each end...26sts
next round same again increase each end....30 sts
hurray l got to 30 sts that l needed
continued on with no increase and l did a 6 more rows for the toe (might be to many)
BUT l still had 30 sts in a round...the shape looked better and it was sooo much smaller looked more me size!
oh used a slip st to join each round

then l changed sts to a DC and continued on with the 30 sts each round
as far as l've got this morning but working so far
and it fits now too!! hehehe
BUT....
They will be thick socks as the yarn is DK too thick really but l'm learning!!
I will get some 4PLY sock yarn asap and make another pair......BUT l have the principle of sock toe making

LOVING THIS SOCK MAKING ALREADY!! lol
Off to do the foot and the heal next and then the leg
cya later
have  fun Sunday all
xx

  1. funny, I was thinking of trying some socks last night when I needed a break from an afghan project, but I couldn't find anything I liked that didn't have a pointed toe. Thanks for posting your pics. I'd be interested in seeing how the heel turns out!
